The international contest “Global Junior Challenge” valorizes the innovative use of technologies for 21st century education and social inclusion.
The contest, historically promoted by Roma Capitale is organized every two years by Fondazione Mondo Digitale. It is the final event of a series of activities promoting the strategic role of new technologies for didactic innovation, integration, sustainable develpment and the reduction of poverty in the world.
The success of 2000’s edition, promoted the Municipality of Rome, led to the creation of the Consorzio Gioventù Digitale, transformed in Fondazione Mondo Digitale in 2006.
Almost 4.000 projcets took part in the past editions. More than 700 good practices have been selected, with more than 100 prizes awarded.
Projects come from every continent and some are the result of international collaborations. The projects have been submitted from across Europe, and particularly from Italy and from Rome, demonstrating the mobilisation created by the Global Junior Challenge, especially among the schools of the city and the province of Rome.

Last edition took place in Rome on 11-13 December 2019, at the headquarters of Biblioteche di Roma and the Civic Museum of Zoology, with a large exhibition area, conferences, workshops and activities for students and teachers. The exhibition has been a great opportunity for networking, visibility and valorization for the finalist projects.
Since 2017, the event is dedicated to the linguist Tullio de Mauro, who has been president of Fondazione Mondo Digitale for 10 years. Tullio De Mauro Award to the School that Innovates and Includes carries his name, aiming at remembering the civic effort of the Master, continuing his activity and valorizing the fundamental role of school teachers and directors working constantly for an inclusive and quality education. The 9th edition hosted the roundtable “The school and the overall growth”: an open space for dialogue between institutions and civic society, to “make and tell school” following the teachings of the well-known linguist. Many man and women from different sector intervened, crossing their work with the thought of the scholar, expert of school-systems and education
