The sixth edition of the Global Junior Challenge was promoted by Roma Capitale and organized by theFondazione Mondo Digitale under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic and with the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in collaboration with the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Legambiente and Intel Italy.
The Awards ceremony was held this morning in the Campidoglio Sala della Protomotecawith Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno.
The 81 finalist projects, which came from 19 countries ranging from Nepal to Perù, all proved that it is possible to make an innovative use of new technology (Internet, virtual reality and multimedia) for 21st century education and social inclusion.
Five types of awards (Global Junior Challenge, President of the Republic, Small Fund, i-Prof and a free trip to the Vienna UNAOC Forum) were presented to the winners in each category by Deputy Mayor of RomeSveva Belviso at the presence of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale PresidentGennaro Sangiuliano and the Family, Education and Youth CouncillorGianluigi De Palo.
The GLOBAL JUNIOR CHALLENGE AWARD (a medal of the Roman she-wolf with Romulus and Remus – the symbol of the foundation of the City of Rome) was presented to the winning projects selected amongst all submitted projects:

Category – ICT for the Integration of Migrants and Refugees in collaboration with UNAOC (United Nation Alliance of Civilization)

FREE TRIP TO THE FORUM UNAOC
The Associazione Lunaria was also awarded the free trip to the Vienna UNAOC Forum (February 27-28, 2013).

The SMALL FUND AWARD is a monetary prize (€3000) allocated by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to projects from developing countries. Moreover, the winners will be able to promote their project on phyrtual.org, the FMD’s digital platform.

The I-PROF AWARD was presented to the professor with the mosti innovative idea. The award includes a last generation portable generously donated by Intel Italy: Salvatore Giuliano, Headmaster Itis Majorana in Brindisi, Italy for the “Book in Progress” Project.
