During the Global Junior Challenge and the Smart&Heart Cities initiative, conceived and promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, creative and technological individuals are called to take part in the International Hackathon for Civic and Social Innovation to develop software applications and solutions to improve the city.
Over 150 hackers are expected in Rome, besides software developers, programmers, web graphic designers, artists, etc. to participate in four challenges: Share Giubileo, Civic Apps, Open School and Best Rome Apps.
The identification of crucial issues, the analysis of the context and the development of a solution are an integral part of each challenge. The appointment is over two days in Rome: October 28 (9 am to 4 pm) and October 29 (10 am to 1 pm). On Friday, October 30, the Awards Ceremony will be held in the Campidoglio’s Aula Giulio Cesare.

There are young men and women who drop out of school, who neither study nor work, few graduates and adults with low education levels … Many European countries have still not reached the necessary strategic objectives to ensure a sustainable economic growth, develop the job market and promote social cohesion that were inserted in the Lisbon Strategy and confirmed by the Europe 2020 Manifesto. Is it possible to develop transversal strategies that will accelerate the route to these objectives? And how do we transform them into common tools?

Rome has always been a city of singles and living alone is potentially dangerous in case of disasters. Indeed, 22% of singles in Rome has some form of problem, including 67 thousand low-income earners, 36 thousand individuals who are not self-sufficient, 15 thousand long-term unemployed individuals, over 10 thousand NEETs and 8500 over-50s looking for work. All of these individuals are urgently in need of being recognized, identified and becoming a full part of the community. How can we transform Rome into a Community City, a city that is open to everyone from downtown to the suburbs?
