E-safety learning material through programming (BeeBot) and creating app (AppInventor, AnkiDroid), from high school student to primary students

Project Summary (max. 2000 characters):

Different searching research said that our children used more and more virtual social networks (EU Kids Online 2010). 59% of students have own profile in networks. In Estonia the students ages 10 -16 spend their time average 5 hours by day. This is the reason why our students had an idea to create interesting and useful e-safety games.

The project idea is to share e-safety knowledges from high school student to primary student through the different activities. The main purpose to teach smaller students behaver in cruel (if you don’t protect yourself) world, get to start of possibilities to get hurt. The project consist of three different e-safety games, made by students. The First game - How to use: 2 teams, both have own game boards (different color, 3D printed and consisted of geometric shapes). The team have to pick up the same colored shapes what  are located on the main floor board. The  Quiz created in GoogleForm and students would solve it in tablet. The game buttons - Bee-Bots, every right answer (give 3 BeeBots steps on the floor board.

Second game – AppInventor game, phone solving.

Third game – e-safety question in AnkiDroid.

Objectives and Innovative Aspects

Today's societies place great importance on the young people education. This project is expected to allow students to get the maximum development of intellectual, cultural and emotional needs on an individual and social level.
Europe is an example of tolerance, coexistence, and multi-ethnic richness. So the partnership activities will enable students to learn about each others cultures and customs. Both students and teachers involved in this project will be more motivated to learn other languages if they establish contact with native citizens.
Proposed activities will also promote communication, education in human values, development of imagination and creativity. Participants in this project will recognize and appreciate diverse social and ethnic groups and cultural characteristics, evaluating the differences and similarities with other groups and the need to respect human rights. Another result of this European collaboration is the ability to compare different methods of teaching of our educational systems and get a broader perspective breaking stereotypes in thinking and overcoming prejudices

Results

Describe the results achieved by your project How do you measure (parameters) these. (max. 2000 characters):
We achieved a great cooperation and teamwork among all the participants. A high degree of dissemination activities through our wikispace as well via other media: newspapers, Local TV, Local Radio, e-magazines and web portals. So we succeed to promote an awareness of the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity within Europe, as well as of the need to combat racism, prejudice and xenophobia, to understand cultural and linguistic diversity, and to fight against racism and xenophobia. Most of our actions supported learners with special needs, and in particular by helping to promote their integration into mainstream education and training and we are happy with this, as well the promotion of equality between men and women and contributing to combating all forms of discrimination based on sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief and disability. All our evaluation results are shown in our wiki space, measured with questionnaires to participants every 3 months: http://europemix.wikispaces.com/Evaluation

Preschoolers Play and Learn English in a interactive way

Project Summary (max. 2000 characters):

When collaboration and work in synergy among 5 schools for 7 years is their new methodology of teaching, then they are always ‘hungry’ for ‘new stuff’ every year! So, we co-planned an alternative way with on-line and off-line activities for young pupils to know and love the target language through the realization of its importance and get joy of using effectively the ICT tools in order to achieve their little goals each time. Teachers supported children’s progress to higher stages aiming on each child’s language learning as it develops, and following his time needs.

Objectives and Innovative Aspects

We tried gradually to achieve specific targets in the school framework. For this we developed this project like this: Initial stage: New to English, we used simple language which was supported by visual materials, we expected that the pupils will eventually respond in the target language (English) providing a wide variety of activities that encourage interaction. Stage,2 –Becoming familiar with English, Here, single words are combined to communicate ideas. Basic communication and strategies are used in group activities or for simple interaction with other children. Stage 3 – Becoming confident as a user of English, Through different activities, both inside and outside the class, pupils have opportunities to practice English with adults and other children. Stage 4 – Demonstrate competency as a user of English, Pupils feel more confident in verbal exchanges and in collaboration with their schoolmates. Now they are able to explore more complex ideas e.g: a role play. Generally pupils used keywords & short sentences, enjoyed rhymes and action songs , developed listening skills in order to interpret simple instructions, learnt the names of common objects around them and expanded their vocabulary enjoying to listen to and dramatizing stories.

Results

Describe the results achieved by your project How do you measure (parameters) these. (max. 2000 characters):
Pupils generally managed: To understand that language is something they can explore, play with, and enjoy. To develop and enhance social skills, a critical part of their lives. To Improve the understanding of their native language. To acquire the ability to communicate with people with whom without the knowledge of a common language would not be able to communicate. To enjoy learning another language. Even it was a pre-planned project by teachers, pupils achieved to improve skills and mainly motivation, so that to expand their project with more activities off-line, on-line than those we have planned and expected initially. They created extra pages in wikispace, concerning learning fields about Animals, Colors, Food, Plants, Shapes, Body. Extra page presenting favorite original GAMES pupils created in the classroom and another page including video about e-safety, an important parameter of this project. http://playle.wikispaces.com/Project+Evaluation
